Hi there! I am a married mom of two boys. My eldest is 13 and has Autism. My youngest is 5 and 'typical'. As you can see there is a big age difference due to the fear of having another child with Autism. My husband and I faced the same fears as all newly diagnosed parents of Autism. I want to start this group to share resources, stories, successes and also so Mamas like us can have a girls night too! *if Dads are interested in getting together, my Hubby is willing to set up a group as well!*

If there are any other parents living in San Jose looking to organize playdates for younger children (ages 2-12) with autism let's find a way to get together! Our children benefit so much from being involved in social activities with other children, but it is often difficult to find supportive and understanding environments for our children to play in. We can meet-up at parks, have play-dates in our homes, plan mini-trips on the weekend to various parks or trails etc. Many parents with children …

Monthly Meetups to get the kid together to play, for the parents to talk and network and to offer support and share resources with each other. My son is 9 years old, and so it might help for others to know that if you have a child in the age range of 8-12, this might be a good fit for your child.
If you can't find a group.. start a group. :) I have 2 wonderful special needs kids.. a 10 year old boy with Aspergers and an 8 year old girl with ADHD. I'm looking for other parents to connect with and share the experience. Seems like we could help eachother avoid the IEP pitfalls, find better resources and possibly create lasting friendships for our children as well as ourselves. As great as our families and friends are, they aren't in our shoes... Heck, sometimes it's a problem trying to …
